This unit, we'll examine a few elements and principles of design to apply some of our newly acquired skills with Adobe Illustrator's Pen tool (P), and pick up a few tricks for drawing simple shapes with high precision to depict common sights in the world.

There are FOUR parts to the assignment for this week.
Students in period 6, skip down to the Additional Resources.

(1) TASK 1 Design Terminology - Define the following design terms and locate at least two example images from the Internet that illustrate the term.  Please properly site and attribute the url source in the caption of each photo.

- Contrast : (Size contrast, shape contrast, texture/color contrast)

the state of being strikingly different from something else, typically something in juxtaposition or close association.

- Emphasis : special importance, value, or prominence given to something. 

- Balance : (informal balance, and formal balance)
an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady.



- Proportion : a part, share, or number considered in comparative relation to a whole.

- Perspective : the art of drawing solid objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to give the right impression of their height, width, depth, and position in relation to each other when viewed from a particular point.

Welcome to Week 5!

During this week you will gain more experience using Adobe Illustrator's Pen Tool (P) to draw shapes, only this time you will create multi-layered shapes that contain different fill and stroke colors, to make more complex vector graphics.

PREPARATION PRACTICE
Play the Letter Shaping Game, then do the two task assignments.

Monday's TASK 1 (20pts)
1.) Redraw the shape below.
2.) Set the Fill color to (this hex code value #3A55A5), and the Stroke to (this hex code value #FFDE73)

3.) Use the Type Tool (T) to add the following text beneath, "CRENSHAW HIGH SCHOOL: ACADEMICS, ATHLETICS, ARTS."
4.) Save and email your Adobe Illustrator (.ai) file to teacher.jwebb@gmail.com.  Include your full name, class period, and title of the assignment within your email.
5.) Export an image (.png) and publish your finished version of the re-drawn logo with Crenshaw's official school colors.

TASK 2 (20pts)
1.) Use the Pen Tool to redraw this "CRENSHAW" logo.
2.) Change the fill color to Crenshaw High School's official gold color.

Vector graphics are beneficial to artists because they are scalable, meaning you can vastly increase or decrease the size of a vector image without severely affecting the quality.  To continue our practice of effectively drawing vectors using Adobe Illustrator's shape and Pen tools, this assignment asks you to make contour drawings like these examples below.

The easiest way to improve your skills as an artist is to practice drawing; especially drawing what you see.  So we'll start this week with more practice drawing shapes using the Pen Tool in Adobe Illustrator CS6.

then attempt to do what each chart is showing.
